Trek to holy mountain lakes of Langtang

Trek to holy mountain lakes of LangtangThe Langtang Valley is located only 19 miles north of Kathmandu, close to the border of Tibet. The valley is dominated by Langtang Lirung [7246m], the highest peak in the area. This is a superb introduction to trekking in Nepal among some of the most beautiful scenery in the whole country.

This Langtang trek towards the base of Langtang Himal, north of Kathmandu valley, offers the shortest approach to snowy mountains from Kathmandu. The Langtang trek starts from Syabru Besi after a 9 hrs drive from Kathmandu. Following a trail upstream Bhote Kosi river through ethnic Tamang villages, lush green forests and the wide spread Kyangin valley surrounded by snowy peaks from all fours sides, takes you up to Kyangin at 3800 meter, where you get an opportunity to ascend Kyangjin Ri [4350m.], from where the 360 degree mountain views are truly panoramic.

A wonderful trek off the beaten path, filled with wonderful scenery and ethnic Nepali cultural experience. You make your way through forests filled with rhododendron blooms during spring season. A riot of red, white and pink blooms surround you that will make you feel as if you are in paradise. As this is a new trail, you can look ahead to a peaceful and serene experience, devoid of the usual 'trekking crowd'. The trail leads to three of the holy mountain lakes - Gosainkunda, Saraswatikunda and Bhairabkunda. These lakes are sacred to the Hindus and during the full moon day in July, many Hindu pilgrims flock to Gosainkunda to take a purifying ritual bath. The breathtaking and panoramic views of Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, Himal Chuli, Langtang Lirung and a few Tibetan peaks remain within your view throughout the trek.
