TREKKING IN LANGTANG & HELAMBU REGION

TREKKING IN LANGTANG & HELAMBU REGIONThe Langtang Valley trek is near the Tibetan border. At a maximum altitude of 3,900m, magnificent views of glaciers and the Himalaya, this beautiful region of Langtang presents very good value with excellent lodge accommodation and food, also the lower altitude allows us to trek in Nepal's Winter, so less crowded. Described Langtang as one of the world's most beautiful valleys, a sentiment that visitors have endorsed ever since and one that we are sure you will agree with! Despite being relatively close to Kathmandu, the Langtang Valley remains unaffected by the pressures of the overwhelming numbers that trek the Annapurna and Everest routes.

The forests are filled with life. Langur monkeys and bright parakeets can be seen in the trees, and the dense stands of oak and rhododendron give way to alpine meadows and grazing yak as you reach higher altitudes. At the highest points are glaciers and snowy peaks that rise as high as 24,000 feet. The Tamang peoples who inhabit the valley continue to practice their local variety of Buddhism and to earn their livelihoods herding sheep and yak. After visiting the Kathmandu valley we'll leave the sounds of that bustling medieval city behind, and drive north, following the Trisuli River to Syabru Bensi, where we camp by the river.

The Langtang trek is the base of Langtang Himal, north of Kathmandu valley, offers the shortest approach to snowy mountains from Kathmandu. The Langtang trek starts from Syabru Besi after a 9 hrs drive from Kathmandu. Following a trail upstream Bhote Kosi river through ethnic Tamang villages, lush green forests and the wide spread Kyangin valley surrounded by snowy peaks from all fours sides, takes you up to Kyangin at 3800 meter, where you get an opportunity to ascend Kyangjin Ri [4350m.], from where the 360 degree mountain views are truly panoramic.

This is a superb introduction to trekking in Nepal, among some of the most beautiful scenery in the whole country. Lying 30 km north of Kathmandu, Helambu is the most accessible trekking region in Nepal. The trek starts from Syabru Besi, after driving 150 km from Kathmandu. The trail gradually ascends upstream along the Bhote Kosi River, passing through the forests of the Langtang valley to the alpine meadows and yak pastures around Kyangjin. After an ascent of Kyangjin Ri [4350m.], from where the 360 degree mountain views are truly spectacular, the trail goes to Thulo Syabru. From here, we further trek to the sacred Gosainkunda Lake situated at an elevation of 4336 meters and to Kathmandu via the lovely Helambu region.
